Royals Trade D Sayers to Blades For Cond. 5th rd Pick


The Saskatoon Blades have acquired 1996 born defenceman Bryton Sayers from the Victoria Royals in exchange for a conditional 5th round draft pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

A native of Prince Albert, Sayers spent two years in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA League before splitting the last two seasons between the Lethbridge Hurricanes and Victoria Royals. Sayers will bring more experience on the back end to help with the existing young core.

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals today announced that the club has acquired a conditional draft pick from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for 19-year-old defenceman Bryton Sayers.

Victoria sends Sayers to Saskatoon after acquiring the 5-10, 198 lb defender from the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the 2014-15 WHL Trade Deadline.

A native of Prince Albert, SK, Sayers played in 20 regular season contests for the Royals and recorded two points (1g-1a) to go along with seven penalty minutes. Sayers also suited up in 10 playoff games for Victoria and notched one assist and two minutes in penalties.

Prior to his time in Victoria, Sayers spent parts of two seasons with the Hurricanes and registered 21 points (6g-15a) and 56 penalty minutes in 84 games played.

The Vancouver Giants announced on Wednesday that the club has acquired forward Taylor Crunk off waivers from the Victoria Royals.

“We are excited to add a player like Taylor who has had some good playoff experience over the last few years,” said Giants Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Bonner. “He is a veteran leader who brings grit and toughness, and we believe he’ll be a great addition to our team.”

Crunk, a native of San Jacinto, California, has spent the last four seasons on Vancouver Island.

The 20-year-old had 10 goals and 4 assists in 71 games with the Royals during the 2014/15 season while also compiling 103 penalty minutes.

Crunk has played 28 career playoff games.
