Recap: SASK 2 - VIC 5

Jamie Crooks scored twice against his former club to lead the Victoria Royals (12-11, 24pts) past the visiting Saskatoon Blades (10-11-0-1, 21pts) 5-2 Tuesday night.

The Royals snap the Blades 2 game win streak, taking the only game in the season series, and improve to 2-1 on their current 6 game homestand.

Patrik Polivka earned his 9th win with a 29 save performance, while Russian Andrey Makarov played the first 40 minutes allowing 4 goals on 26 shots.  Back up Alex Moodie played the 3rd stopping 8 of 9.

After Brandon Magee scored the lone goal in the first, Victoria scored 3 second period goals to take a 4-1 lead to the third where the teams traded goals.

Crooks scored once on the power play and added a short handed breakaway marker, both in the middle frame for this team leading 10th and 11th goals of the season.  The Royals had strong second period outshooting the Blades 17-9.

Alex Gogolev had a goal and an assist, and Austin Carroll chipped in with a pair of helpers.  Captain Tyler Stahl has goals in back to back games after adding the Royals lone tally in the third.

The Blades got goals from Brenden Walker in the second to cut the lead to 2-1, and Matej Stransky added a single in the third.

Victoria went 1 for 2 on their power play, while Saskatoon struck once on six opportunities.

Up next the Royals will face the Cougars in Victoria, Friday and Saturday before wrapping up the six game homestand next Tuesday against Moose Jaw.
