Logan Nelson broke a 3-3 tie with 1:17 left in the third to lift the Victoria Royals past the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-3 Saturday night.
The Royals (6-5), win their third straight, and earn their first sweep of a two game set after a 4-0 win the night before. The Canes (1-7-0-1) suffer their 5th loss in a row.
Lethbridge netminder Corbin Boes was named the first star making 45 saves as Victoria outshot the opposition 45-28. Patrik Polivka earned his 5th win of the season with 25 saves.
Royals Defenseman Joe Hicketts had a goal and assist, Ben Walker and Keegan Kanzig added singles while Brett Cote chipped in with two helpers.
After Walker opened the scoring, the game was tied at 1 after 1, and even at 2 after 40 minutes with Kanzig’s tying goal. The Hurricanes took their second lead in the third, before Hicketts tied it up on the man advantage. The Royals then they killed off a 5 on 3 power play and went ahead on Nelson’s 5th of the season late.
Both clubs struck on the power play, Victoria was 1 for 5 and Lethbridge 1 for 4.
Logan Nelson extends his goal scoring streak to 4 games (4g 3a, 7pts), Austin Carroll (2g 3a, 5pts) and Joe Hicketts (3g 4a, 7pts) push their point streaks to 4 games as well.
The Royals are 3-0 on their current five game homestand which wrap up with a pair against the Cougars Monday afternoon and Wednesday night.
