Preview: Victoria at Vancouver, Monday 2pm Feb.10.2014

The Victoria Royals  (37-16-1-3, 78pts) wrap up their 3 game in 4 day BC Division road swing with a 2 pm matinee against the Vancouver Giants Monday.

It’s the 9th meeting of the season, and the Royals have a winning record of 4-3-0-1 against the Giants.

Most recently defeating Vancouver 3-2 in overtime in Victoria on Feb. 1st, after a 5-4 shoot out loss the night before.  Both clubs have scored 25 goals a piece throughout eight meetings.

Riding a two game win streak, the Royals have points in 9 straight games (7-0-1-1).  They set the franchise record for points in a season with 78 eclipsing last years record setting mark of 77. 

Victoria is 3rd in the West, and has 7 victories in their past 10, 3 back of Portland and 3 up on Seattle.  The Royals earned Honourable Mention for the CHL Top 10 this past week.

Victoria has won 5 straight on the road after a 6-4 win in Kelowna Saturday.  They beat Kamloops 3-1 on Friday and have a franchise record 18 road victories (18-6-0-1).

Vancouver has dropped their last two, 5-1 against Edmonton Saturday and 5-0 to Calgary the night before, both at home.  The Giants are 6th in the West and have 4 wins in their past 10.  At home Vancouver is 4 over .500 (16-12-0-1).

Victoria’s Logan Nelson has the longest active goal scoring streak in the WHL at 5 games with 6 goals.  Austin Carroll notched his team leading 27th and 50th career WHL goal in his last outing.  Ben Walker has 49 career goals, and had 3 assists last game.  Brandon Magee leads the team in scoring with 50 points (20g 30a).  Netminder Coleman Vollrath leads the league in save percentage and goals against average.

Up next the Royals will play a single home game against the Americans on Wednesday before 7 straight on the road. 

After Monday’s contest in Vancouver, Victoria will play just 4 home games and 10 on the road to wrap up the regular season.
