Recap: VAN 6 - VIC 3 Friday Dec.12

Axel Blomqvist scored the Teddy Bear toss goal, but the visiting Vancouver Giants spoiled the party with a 6-3 win over the Victoria Royals Friday night.

The Giants used 3 power play goals plus one shorthanded, to earn their 5th straight win and even the season series at 3 a piece.  They are now 4-0 under head coach Claude Noel.

Vancouver was 3 for 4 on the power play, while Victoria went 0 for 3.

The Royals had their two game win streak snapped, as they wrapped up their four game homestand with a 2-2 record.

Peyton Lee earned the victory with 26 saves, while Coleman Vollrath was busy making 38 saves in the loss.

The two clubs meet again Saturday, this time in Vancouver as Victoria kicks off three road games before the Christmas break.

After Mason Geertson opened the scoring with :30 seconds left in the first, Blomqvist notched his 14th early in the second to bring the bears down from the stands.

The Giants then erupted with 3 straight goals in a span of 7:12 to build a 4-1 lead.  Jack Palmer cut their lead in half before heading into the third.

In the final frame Dakota Odgers regained the three goal lead before Brandon Magee buried his 10th, to bring the home team to within striking distance 5-3.

Tyler Benson struck while shorthanded to put the game out of reach.

Travis Brown had two assists, and Magee had a goal and an assist for the Royals, while Geertson and Thomas Foster had a goal and assist each for the Giants.

Victoria was without defenseman Joe Hicketts, away at Team Canada’s World Junior Selection camp, and also Dave Lowry, as an assistant coach.  Enio Sacilotto is serving as head coach for the club in his absence.

Vancouver did not have their 2nd leading scorer Jackson Houck in the line up, out day to day with a lower body injury.
