Recap: VIC 3 - SC 1

Alex Forsberg had 3 assists to help the visiting Victoria Royals get past the Swift Current Broncos 3-1 Tuesday night.

“Preparation, and I give a lot of credit to our leadership group, and once again made sure we were ready to play.” Said Head Coach Dave Lowry on the clubs 3 goal first period.

Matthew Phillips had a goal and an assist, while Coleman Vollrath made 29 saves for his league leading 10th win.

“We started off early, got a few bounces in our first few shifts…” said Phillips, “The whole team played well from start to finish…it was a good team win.”

The Royals also got goals from Dante Hannoun and Tyler Soy and now have points in 5 straight games (5-0-0-1).

Victoria improves to 3-0 on their six game Eastern Division road trip after wins in Prince Albert and Saskatoon.

“Just being ready…” said Forsberg on the road trip success, “That’s what we talk about day in and day out.  Since we’ve come to Saskatchewan our starts have been really good.”

The Royals chased netminder Travis Child from the net scoring twice on their first 8 shots, making way for 20 year old Landon Bow who went on to stop 23 of 24.

Victoria out shot Swift 32-30 overall but dominated 16-8 in the first and 14-9 in the second, before a big surge by the Broncos in the third.

“Our goalie made saves when we had to, we had guys that paid the price, blocked shots and made it tough to get pucks to the net.” Said Lowry on fending off the home team in the third.

The Royals were 1 for 2 on the power play, as Soy scored with the man advantage which restored the two goal lead a minute after Broncos Cavin Leth struck shorthanded.

Victoria’s penalty killers were a perfect 3 for 3, and remain the with most efficient kill in the league.

The Royals remain first in the West with a record of (11-5-0-1) and 23 points.
