Recap: EVT 3 - VICT 2

The Everett Silvertips scored once in each period, and hung on to a 3-2 victory against the Victoria Royals in their first visit meeting of the season Tuesday night. 

Everett takes game one of the four game series, and square off again Wednesday night in Victoria.

Everett lead two nothing heading into the third, on goals by Cody Fowlie (1g 1a) and Dominik Bittner (1g).  Ben Walker (1g 1a) cut the lead in half with his 7th at the 5:24 mark, collecting his own rebound.  The turning point came at the 11:41 mark of the third when Ryan Harrison (1g 1a) got in alone and converted on the Silvertips first shot of the period, taking a 3-1 lead.  With 48 seconds left and the goalie pulled while on the power play, Brandon Magee (1g) got his 19th to draw the Royals to within one, but ultimately fell short.

Kent Simpson made 29 saves for his 11th win of the season while his counterpart Keith Hamilton made 22 for his 27th loss.  The Royals outshot the ‘Tips 31-25 on the night and 14-3 in the third. 

Victoria struck once on six power play opportunites, while shutting down all three Everett chances.

Victoria now winless in three remain 7th in the West, 2 up on idle Seattle, and now are just 5 ahead of 9th place Everett.  The Silvertips leap frog past the Cougars for 9th in the West, and have now won 3 of their last 4.

The game saw the return of defenseman Tyler Stahl, who missed 50 games with an upper body injury.  Stahl left the game in the second after receiving 5 and a game for charging on Jordyn Boyd.  Tim Traber was involved in the only fight of the contest, squaring off against Port Hardys’ Lucas Grayson in the middle frame.

Ben Walker extended his point scoring streak to 5 games (3g 6a), and Brandon Magee now has a goal in each of his last three, riding a 5 game streak (4g 3a).  Jamie Crooks had his 4 game goal streak snapped, but added an assist for 12 points in 9 games and points in 5 straight (4g 1a).  Defenseman Hayden Rintoul has an assist 4 games in a row..
