Preview: Victoria at Kamloops, Saturday Feb.14.2015

The Victoria Royals (30-21-3-1, 64pts) visit the Kamloops Blazers (22-29-3-3-, 50 pts) Saturday night, in the middle of a 3 in 3.

Kamloops occupies the final playoff spot in the BC Division with a single point lead on Vancouver, and just 2 up on Prince George.

The Blazers are on a two game win streak after a 3-2 shoot out home victory last night against the Thunderbirds.  Kamloops scored the only two goals of the shootout by Cole Ully and Jake Kryski.  Joel Hamilton scored shorthanded, and Matt Needham added the other in regulation as Connor Ingram stopped 26 shots.

It’s the 7th of 8 meetings between the clubs, both sporting records of 3-2-1-0, as both teams earned overtime victories.  Most recently Victoria blanked Kamloops 6-0 on the Island on Jan. 24th, after falling 4-3 in overtime the night before.

The Royals are looking to bounce back after a 7-3 loss on the road to the Rockets Friday night, snapping their 4 game win streak.  Austin Carroll had a goal and assist, while Tyler Soy and Dante Hannoun provided the other tallies.  Justin Paulic and Coleman Vollrath split the duties.

The club sits 2nd in the BC division, and 4th in the West, 4 back of Portland and just 1 up on Seattle who’ll they’ll face Sunday.

Victoria has 7 wins in their past 10, while Kamloops is 5-5.

The Blazers are led in scoring by Cole Ully’s 71 points, the 7th most in the WHL.  Netmidner Connor Ingram was the WHL Goaltender of the Month for January posting a record of (7-1-0-1).

The Royals Joe Hicketts has 7 assists in his last 7 games, and leads all defenseman in helpers with 41.

Austin Carroll leads the team in scoring with 62 points including 30 goals after scoring singles in back to back games.

Alex Forsberg and Alexey Sleptsov have assists in back to back contests.

After Kamloops, Victoria travels to Seattle to take on the Thunderbirds Sunday at 5pm to wrap up 3 in 3 on the road.
