Preview: Victoria at Seattle, Sunday 5pm Feb.15.2015

The Victoria Royals visit the Seattle Thunderbirds Sunday at 5pm to wrap up 3 games in 3 nights on the road.

It’s the second meeting of the season, as the Royals fell on the road 5-4 back on Dec. 16th.

Both clubs have different looking squads however, as the Thunderbirds now have Top Prospect Matthew Barzal back in the line up, Shea Theordore who won Gold with Canada at the World Juniors, and also Roberts Lipsbergs returning from the ECHL Stockton Thunder.

Victoria is looking for back to back wins after a 5-2 defeat of the Kamloops Blazers Saturday night.

Tyler Soy had 2 goals and an assist, Austin Carroll struck twice, while Joe Hicketts notched 3 helpers.  Justin Paulic made 30 saves to earn the win as the Royals outshot the Blazers 42-32.

Victoria had fallen 7-3 one night earlier in Kelowna.

Seattle is also playing 3 games in 3 nights, they defeated host Everett 3-2 in a shootout Saturday. Scott Eansor and Mathew Barzal scored in regulation. Barzal and Donovan Neuls scored in the shootout. Taran Kozun stopped 25 of 27 shots to get the win.  Everett did not score in the shootout.

The Thunderbirds have points in their last 3 games (2-0-0-1), and are looking for back to back wins.  Seattle sits just one point back of 4th place Victoria in the West.

Both teams have 7 wins in their past 10 games.

The Thunderbirds allow the 3rd fewest goals against, while allowing the 4th fewest shots against.

Seattle’s Taran Kozun is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending February 8 after posting a 2-0-0-0 record including a shutout victory with a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .955.
