ROYALS DROP AMERICANS IN TOURNAMENT FINALE
Victoria defeats Tri-City 5-1 to conclude pre-season tournament.

Everett, WA- The Victoria Royals scored four unanswered goals en route to a 5-1 victory over the Tri-City Americans on Sunday morning in the teams’ final contest of the Holiday Inn Pre-Season Classic.

Victoria went with a mixture of 12 veterans and eight rookies in their line-up. Tri-City countered with nine rookies and 11 veterans.

The Royals led the Americans 2-1 entering the second period, before 2014 first round pick Scott Walford scored to give the team a two goal lead late in the frame. Alex Forsberg and Regan Nagy secured the win for Victoria with the club’s fourth and fifth goals in the final period. Ethan Price and Keith Anderson tallied the other markers for the Royals, while Parker AuCoin scored the lone goal for the Americans.

Victoria’s two rookie goaltenders, Griffen Outhouse and Dylan Myskiw made their pre-season debuts and each played a period and a half. Outhouse started the game and turned aside 15 of 16 shots, while Myskiw made seven saves. Netminders Beck Warm and Nicholas Sanders combined for 48 saves on 53 shots for Tri-City.

The Royals went 1/8=12.5% on the powerplay, whereas the Americans were 1/5=20.0%.

Victoria scratched 20-year-old Coleman Vollrath along with Jack Walker, Chaz Reddekopp, Evan Smith, Landon Welykholowa, Eric Florchuk, Ryan Peckford, and Tyler Thompson.

The Royals finished the 12th annual Everett tournament with a record of 1-2-0-0 in the three contests.

Victoria continue their pre-season schedule with a match-up against the Vancouver Giants on Saturday, September 12th at the Ladner Leisure Centre in Delta, BC at 4:00 p.m.

The Royals’ lone home contest of the pre-season is set for Sunday, September 13th when they host the Vancouver Giants. Puck drop is set for 2:05 p.m. at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
