Recap: PORT 5 - VIC 6



Victoria scores four second period goals to defeat Portland 6-5.

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals and Portland Winterhawks exploded for six markers in the middle frame as the homeside swept the two-game home series with a 6-5 victory.

Victoria forward Alex Forsberg recorded a goal and two assists for three of his four points (2g-2a) in the second period. The Royals trailed twice before Vladimir Bobylev scored two tallies with an additional marker from Ralph Jarratt to give the home team their first lead of the night. Portland’s Alex Schoenborn and Victoria’s Forsberg exchanged goals late in the second to end the frame.

The Royals’ game-winner was scored by Regan Nagy 13 seconds into the third period. The Winterhawks other goals were scored by Skyler McKenzie, Paul Bittner, Caleb Jones and Colton Veloso.

Royals’ netminder Coleman Vollrath stopped 27 of 32 shots he faced. Winterhawks goaltender Michael Bullion turned away 22 of 28 shots directed at him.

On the powerplay Victoria went 1/6=16.7%, while Portland was 0/3=0.0% with the extra attacker.

Victoria will continue their six game home stand with a back-to-back home series against Kamloops on Friday, October 2nd and Saturday October 3rd. Puck drop for both games are scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
