Preview: Prince George vs Victoria

The Victoria Royals (17-14-0-2, 36 points) return from their Christmas Break to entertain the Prince George Cougars (12-18-1-3, 28 points) for a pair of games Friday and Saturday.

It’s their 5th meeting of 8 this season, with Victoria holding a 3-1 series lead after a pair of wins in Prince George by scores of 2-0 and 4-3 on Nov 30th and Dec 1st respectively.  They split a double header on the Island back in November.

The Royals are coming off a 3 game road trip (1-1-0-1) picking up a 6-2 win in Seattle, falling in a shoot out 3-2 in Red Deer, and dropping the final game 5-2 in Edmonton.  Victoria is 6th in the Conference, 7 points back of Tri City and 8 ahead of Prince George.

The Cougars played a 3 game set against the Giants before the break, falling 2-1 in Vancouver and then winning the final two at home by 6-0 and 2-1 scores.  Prince George is tied for 8th in the Conference with Everett, but have 3 games in hand.

The Royals will be without defensemen Joe Hicketts and Ryan Gagnon who are representing Team Pacific at the 2013 World U-17 Hockey Challenge from Dec. 29 to Jan. 4 in Victoriaville and Drummondville, Que.  Cougars forward Carson Bolduc will also be participating.  Prince George defenseman Rinalds Rosinskis is representing Latvia at the World Juniors.
