Recap: VIC 2 - EDM 5

Coleman Vollrath stops a shot
“If you want to beat the top teams like this, you basically have to play mistake free, and play for 60 minutes.” – Royals Assistant Coach Enio Sacilotto

Victoria wraps up a 3 game road trip with 3 of a possible 6 points (1-1-0-1).  They’re now on their Christmas Break until Prince George visits for a pair of games December 28 and 29th.

The Royals led 1-0 after 20 minutes, and 2-1 early in the second before 4 unanswered in the middle frame.  There was no scoring in the third.

“I think when they took that 3-2 lead it took the wind out of our sails.  If we would’ve continued at the pace we were playing at we would’ve been fine.  I’m a little bit disappointed in that, but that’s hockey.” Said Sacilotto.

Patrik Polivka saves a shot
TJ Foster led the way with a goal and an assist, while Tyler Stahl (4th) and Steven Hodges (8th) scored for Victoria.  Edmonton also got goals from Cody Corbett, Michael St. Croix, Keegan Lowe and Brandon Baddock.

It was the first of two meetings, and will meet again at Rexall Place on February 17th.

Oil Kings netminer Tristan Jarry earned his 9th win with 24 saves, while his counterpart Patrik Polivka suffered his 8th defeat after allowing 5 goals on 23 shots.  He was replaced by Coleman Vollrath at the 16:00 minute mark of the 2nd period, stopping all 6 shots directed his way.

Victoria went 0 for 4 on the power play, while Edmonton went 1 for 5.

The Oil Kings improve to 11 over .500 at home (14-3-1-2), while the Royals road record slips to (7-9-0-1).

Victoria started the road trip with a 6-2 win on Tuesday, then a 3-2 shoot out loss in Red Deer before the 5-2 loss in Edmonton.
