Recap: VAN 7 - VIC 2

Cain Franson scored twice and added an assist as the Vancouver Giants (8-20, 16pts) snapped a 7 game losing streak with a 7-2 victory in Victoria (15-13-0-1, 31pts) against the Royals Wednesday night.

The Giants won their 2nd of 5 in the 10 game season series, and will next meet in Vancouver on January 18th.

The Royals had their 2 game win streak snapped, and were unbeaten in regulation in their last 4.

Vancouver held period leads of 2-0, and 4-2 before adding 3 straight in the 3rd.

Victoria outshot the Giants 8-0 early in the final frame, but Vancouver scored 2 goals :37 apart to go ahead 6-2 and added another before the third was out.

The Royals outshot the Giants 33-28, as 16yr old netminder Patyon Lee earned his 5th win with a 31 save performance.  Patrik Polivka started and allowed 3 goals on 15 shots, Coleman Vollrath came in relief making 9 saves on 13 shots.

Victoria went 1 for 5 on the power play, while Vancouver went 1 for 2.

The Giants got multiple point games from Franson (2g, 1a), Jackson Houck (1g 2a), Blake Orban and Dalton Sward chipped in with a pair of assists, Carter Popoff and Brett Kulak had a goal and an assist each.

Logan Nelson extends his point streak for the Royals to 10 games (4g 9a).

Victoria was without Captain Tyler Stahl (sick), F Luke Harrison (result of a hit), and Ryan Gagnon a late scratch.

Up next the Royals entertain Head Coach Dave Lowry’s son, Adam Lowry and the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday, which is also Teddy Bear Toss night. Fans are encouraged to bring their new or gently-used stuffed animals and throw them on the ice following the Royals’ first goal.

Bears and stuffed toys will be donated to The Salvation Army, The Zone’s Christmas Toy Drive benefiting the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul as well as Royals’ hospital visits throughout the season.

Victoria then travels to Seattle, Red Deer and Edmonton before the Christmas Break.
