Recap: KEL 5 - VIC 2

Trading Card Night
The Kelowna Rockets (16-19-2-3) scored the only 3 goals in the third period and skated away with a 5-2 win over the Royals (13-24-2-2) in Victoria Friday night.

Myles Bell was named the number 1 star with 2 goals and assist and got the eventual winner 1:04 into the final frame.  Adam Brown made 36 saves for his 13th win and third star honours, as the Royals outshot the Rockets 38-28.

Shane McColgan (1+1) scored 30 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead after 1.  After the Royals killed off a 5 on 3 for 1:53 in the second Hayden Rintoul’s power play marker evened things up.  He now leads all defenseman in power play goals with 9.  Bell regained the lead with the man advantage 58 seconds later, but Jamie Crooks tied it up at 2 with his 21st with 2:01 left in the middle frame.

Bell (2+1), Cody Chickie (1+1) and Carter Rigby (1+1) scored the games last 3 goals on 6 shots, all in the third for their 2nd win in a row.  Victoria pressed hard in outshooting Kelowna 16-6 the third, but were unable to beat Brown.

Enio Sacilotto, the assistant coach of the Royals with his post game thoughts:

The Rockets power play struck twice on six opportunities, while the Royals went one for five.

Crooks had a goal and assist and named second star, while Kevin Sundher’s 2 helpers extended his point streak to 11 games, giving him 63 points on the year and 6th in league scoring.  Keith Hamilton stopped 23 in his 19th loss of the year.

Royals forward Ben Walker took a hit from Tyrell Goulbourne in the first and never returned to the game.

Victoria now winless in 8, drop only their 2nd in 6 games to Kelowna and will meet again Saturday night.  They sit 2 points up on Prince George who have 2 in hand, but the Royals face them 6 more times this season.  The Rockets remain in 6th with 37 points, 4 back of Spokane.
