Recap: VIC 1 - S.C. 3

Steven Hodges takes a face-off for Victoria in Swift
The Victoria Royals fired 39 shots on goal, but only one found the back of the net in a 3-1 loss to the Broncos in Swift Current Tuesday night.

Netminder Jon Groenheyde was the number one star with 38 saves, while Keith Hamilton stopped 25 in the loss.

Assistant coach Enio Sacilotto, “I thought that (their goaltending) was probably the difference in the game…I thought we could’ve done a lot better job getting infront of him (Groenhyde) and chasing rebounds down, but none the less we got the shots and I think we were right there.”

Taylor Vause (1g 1a) scored the eventual game winner in the second, and added a helper to lead the way for the Broncos, while Robin Soudek (1g) scored his 18th for the lone Royal tally in the second.

Swift held period leads of 1-0 and 2-1, and added a power play marker in the 3rd by Reece Scarlett (1g) for their second win in a row.  Victoria dominated for stretches including the start of the second when they out shot Swift 8-0 by the 5 minute mark, causing the Broncos to take a time out.

Period action in Swift Current
I thought we played pretty good in the second but we had spurts, I thought there were times we were dominating and times we weren’t very good…so I didn’t think started the game very well…but the second period we were very strong and third period we were there we had territory and we had some opportunites but couldn’t capatalize.” Said Sacilotto.

Swift Current went 1 for 2 with the man advantage, while Victoria scored at the end of their second opportunity, statistically going 0 for 2.

Jamie Crooks had his 7 game point streak snapped along with Brandon Magee’s 3 game goal streak.  With the goal, Robin Soudek has points in 3 straight (1g, 2a), while Jordan Fransoo has assisted in all 3 games since being acquired from Brandon.

With a loss in Regina and a win in Brandon, Victoria is now 1-2 on the six game eastern road swing and will play the second place Warriors in Moose Jaw Wednesday.  They remain 8th in the conference, one point up on Prince George.
