Kevin Sundher now a Wheat King |
According to Kevin Sundher, “It’s been a crazy day, the team was just heading out for the prairies and I was pulled off the bus and told about the trade. I play to win and I'm looking forward to joining a team that has a chance to go far."
Sundher, a third-round selection by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2010 NHL draft, has 64 points in 40 games this season. Kevin Sundher talks about the trade:
“It is never easy to trade a player or a person of Kevin’s calibre,” Marc Habscheid head coach and GM of the Royals said. “His contributions to this organization on the ice are cemented in our record book, and what he brought to the rink everyday will be missed by his teammates and the entire organization. We wish Kevin continued success this year and into his future as a professional.”
"Fransoo is young defenseman who will be a large part of our backend now and in the future. Dakota is a young forward who has skill and grew up playing with Brandon Magee in Edmonton. We feel that these two young men as well as the addition of an extra first round draft pick are key pieces in our effort to build a top end program in Victoria."
Jordan Fransoo, a seventh-round pick by the Ottawa Senators in the 2011 NHL draft, is in his sophomore season. From North Battleford, Sask., he has 11 points in 41 games this season. A good skater with a big shot, he was a fifth-round bantam pick by Brandon in 2008. The Senators staff like his competitive level and tall frame, which should fill out as he matures. Fransoo's work ethic and desire to succeed are both plusses. More of a defensive defenseman, he has shown the ability to contribute on the scoresheet.

Wheat Kings’ general manager Kelly McCrimmon, “In Fransoo, we dealt from a position of strength...we need to open up ice time for both Ayrton (Nikkel) and Dylan (Kuczek),”
says McCrimmon. “Dakota is a good young player that we were very
reluctant to include in this deal. We project that he will develop into a
top six forward in our league. We wish both players good luck in
Victoria.”
Dakota Conroy from Edmonton, a third-round bantam draft pick in 2009, Conroy has eight points in 37 games this season.
