Preview GAME 6: Kamloops at Victoria

Down 3 games to 2, the Victoria Royals can even the best of seven Western Quarter Final series against the Kamloops Blazers at 3, Monday night at Bear Mountain.

Victoria won 4-2 in Kamloops Saturday night as Patrik Polivka made 47 saves and Brett Cote scored twice, including the winner.  Logan Nelson and Jamie Crooks had a goal and assist each as the club overcame a 2-1 second period deficit.

Kamloops outshot Victoria 49-25 overall, in a game were there were no penalties called in the first period.

The Royals were 0 for 1on the power play, and stopped 3 of 4 Blazer man advantages.

“We played a simple game, it wasn’t pretty for us but at the end of the day it was effective.  That’s the way we’re going to have to continue to play.” Lowry said.

Polivka’s Save % improves to .920 in the series, compared to Cole Cheveldave’s .872.

Victoria was again without Brandon Magee (Upper), D Tyler Stahl (Lower, day to day), Alex Gogolev (Lower, indefinite), F Luke Harrison (Upper, indifinite) and D Ryan Gagnon (Upper).  Austin Carroll also did not dress (Upper).  Kolton Dixon played his first WHL post season game.

Tim Bozon missed his second in a row for Kamloops, scoring 91 points in the regular season.

Aside from both clubs winning games with empty net markers, the contests have been close one goal games.  Victoria fell 3-2 in the opener in Kamloops, and 6-4 the following night.  The Royals won 2-1 on the Island, then fell 5-4 in overtime before doubling up the Blazers 4-2 Saturday.
