Recap: PORT 4 - VIC 3 (Game 5, Series 3-1 'Hawks)

Brendan Leipsic scored twice as the visiting Portland Winterhawks came from behind to defeat the Victoria Royals 4-3 Tuesday night.

Portland takes a 3-1 series lead in the best of seven back to the Moda Center for Game 5 Thursday night.

It was a back and forth affair Tuesday, with the Royals twice holding leads.

The game was tied at 1 after 20 minutes, and tied at 2 after 40.
Hodges denied by Burke

Steven Hodges gave the home team a 3-2 lead, :07 seconds into the third, and set the franchise record for fastest goal to start a period.

Brendan Leipsic added his second of the game to tie the game at 3 a mere 1:26 later.  Chase Deleo gave the Winterahwks their final lead, as the Royals had to kill off a penalty late and were unable to equalize.

Patrik Polivka made 34 saves, while his counterpart Brendan Burke stopped 25 for the win.

Victoria has struck on the power play in each game of the series, going 1 for 4 while stopping 4 of 5 Portland man advantages.

In the second  period, the Winterhawks went ahead on Leipsic’s 7th, but Taylor Crunk fired home a short handed goal to lift the 6, 745 out of their seats to tie the game at 2.

The Royals had Keegan Kanzig back in the line up after missing 2 games due to suspension.
