Vladimir Bobylev scored twice and Joe Hicketts had three
assists as the Victoria Royals (10-5-0-1) beat the host Saskatoon Blades 5-1
Sunday afternoon.
“I thought we got off to a great start tonight,” said
Head Coach Dave Lowry,
“Our primary focus was to carry over the momentum we
generated Friday night in Prince Albert,
and our guys came out, were able to play with the lead early on and just
continue moving forward.”
The Royals led 1-0 after 20, and 4-0 after 40 before
exchanging 3rd period markers.
Netminder Coleman Vollrath set the franchise record in wins
with 61.
“It’s a huge honour to pass Lucas Gore for the wins,”
said Vollrath, “He’s a really good guy…and a really good goalie when the
franchise was there as the Chilliwack
Bruins.”
The Royals outshot the Blades 11-5 in the first, but were
outshot 27-25 overall with Nik Amundrud taking the loss.
Victoria also
got goals from Dante Hannoun, Ryan Peckford, and Logan Fisher, and now have
points in 4 straight games. Connor Gay
got the lone tally for Saskatoon.
“I think we were confident, we got off to a good start,
and continued in the second…kept it rolling.” Said Logan Fisher who scored
his 2nd of the season in front of family.
“Good teams know how to keep going and don’t hold back…and
that’s the level we’re trying to get to…” according to Fisher who’s club
improves to 5-3 on the road this season.
“When you can score five goals on the road you’ll take
it, doesn’t matter how.” Said Lowry on all five being even strength.
The Royals were 0 for 4 with the man advantage, while their
#1 penalty kill was a perfect 3 for 3.
“I thought our first power play was probably the best we’ve
had all year, we had great in zone time, great looks, we just had some missed
opportunities and then we got away from it as the game went along.”
Victoria has won their first two games of the Eastern
division road swing after a 3-2 overtime win in Prince Albert Friday, and now
kick off 4 games in 5 nights at Swift Current Tuesday.
