ANNOUNCE 2015 TRAINING CAMP SCHEDULE

BC- The Victoria
Royals today announced the schedule for their 2015 draft, rookie, and main
training camps set to take place at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
The Royals
are honouring three individuals from Victoria’s local media who have dedicated
their careers to covering local sports. Jeff King, Cleve Dheensaw (DEAN-saw)
and Steve Duffy have all been pillars in the Victoria sports media and the
Royals are honouring their hard work and dedication by naming the rookie and
main camp squads after them.
Team King
is named after current CHEK News Sports Director Jeff King, who has been with
the television company since 2001. Team Dheensaw pays homage to Royals’ beat
reporter Cleve Dheensaw who is a writer for the Times Colonist newspaper and
has covered sports in Victoria for the past 34 years. Team Duffy is named after
Steve Duffy, who for the last 40 years has been a radio broadcaster throughout
Vancouver Island and is now with CFAX 1070.
Main
camp will be made up of returning players from the club’s 2014-15 roster, free
agent invitees born from 1995 – 1998 and selected players from this year’s
draft and rookie camps. The players will be divided into three teams for on-ice
sessions that begin on Monday, August 31st and run through Tuesday,
September 1st.
The
Royals’ Training Camp opens on Wednesday, August 26th with a draft
camp for players selected in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. The draft camp will be
the first chance for fans to watch Victoria’s 2015 draft selections, including
first round pick Eric Florchuk.
Rookie
camp begins on Friday, August 28th and concludes on Sunday, August
30th. The rosters are comprised of players born in 1999 and
2000, skaters who have been drafted or listed by the Royals and free agent
invites.
