Teddy Bear Toss Saturday, Skate With Royals Sunday



ROYALS HOST GIANTS THIS WEEKEND; TEDDY BEAR TOSS ON SATURDAY
Victoria clashes with Vancouver on Saturday night & Sunday afternoon.

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals will take on their BC Division rivals, the Vancouver Giants, on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Saturday’s contest is the club’s fifth annual Teddy Bear Toss Night with puck drop at 7:05 p.m. Sunday will see Victoria in a matinee match-up beginning at 3:05 p.m. with a skate with the Royals taking place after the game.     

Saturday and Sunday’s games will mark the last time fans can see the Royals live in action at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre before the Christmas Holidays. Victoria returns home to face the Prince George Cougars on Sunday, December 27th for Black Press Hockey Card Night and Monday, December 28th. Puck drop for both contests is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. 

DEDICATED DIFFERENTIAL: The Royals enter this week with the best goal differential in the Western Hockey League at +37. Through the first 29 games of the season Victoria has scored 101 goals, sixth most in the WHL, while allowing the second fewest against in the league at 64. Forward Dante Hannoun leads the team with a +/- rating of +19.

TERRIFIC TENDY: Victoria netminder Coleman Vollrath is only one game away from tying former Chilliwack Bruins’ goaltender Lucas Gore for the most games played in franchise history. Vollrath, who has spent his entire junior career with the Royals, has played in 140 regular season WHL contests where he has collected a record of 68-42-4-5 to go along with eight shutouts. Gore currently holds the record with 141 games played. Earlier this season Vollrath passed Gore for the franchise lead in wins by a netminder in a 5-1 victory over the Saskatoon Blades. 

SATURDAY – TEDDY BEAR TOSS NIGHT

The Royals fifth annual Teddy Bear Toss is proudly supported by 100.3 The Q! and The Zone @91.3.

Fans are encouraged to bring their new teddy bears or other gently used stuffed toys to the game, and throw them on the ice when the Royals score their first goal.  Save-On-Foods will also be on site selling Mini-Marty the Marmot stuffed toys with proceeds going to BC Children’s Hospitals. 

All stuffed toys collected on ice will be distributed towards a variety of causes such as; The TLC Fund for Kids, Single Parent Resource Centre, Women in Need, C-FAX Santa’s Anonymous, Victoria Police Department, The Salvation Army, The Mustard Seed, St. Vincent de Paul Centre, Craigflower Elementary, the Queen Alexandra Centre and the Victoria Women’s Transition House.

SUNDAY – SKATE WITH THE ROYALS

Fans are invited to bring their skates and join the players for a post-game skate.  Fans can beat the line-up by signing up in the concourse for the skate before or during the game outside section 107. Those who wish to participate are encouraged to bring their own skates and helmets, but can rent by donation from the SOFMC Skate Shop during the contest.  Proceeds go towards the BC Children’s Hospital.

Pre-Game:

-          Japan Camera will be on site at Gate 1 to take Christmas photos with Marty the Marmot from 6:00-6:45 p.m. Photos are by food or cash donation to the Mustard Seed Food Bank.

Jersey Auctions:

-           An autographed game worn Joe Hicketts Team Canada jersey from the 2015 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships will be available by auction in the concourse during the game.  This is a sealed bid jersey auction, ending December 13th with proceeds going to the Victoria Royals Education and Scholarship Fund.

-          A selection of Royals’ vintage game worn jersey’s from Turn Back the Clock Night will available via auction by donation to the Victoria Royals Education & Scholarship Fund via silent auction during the game.
