Dante Hannoun scored the shoot out winner as the visiting Victoria
Royals came from behind to beat the Tri City Americans 5-4 Friday night.
The Royals led 3-1 after 20 minutes, but the Americans
reversed the trend in the middle frame, scoring 3 goals to take the lead.
“After the second we came back, focussed on how we needed to play…we battled
hard and grinded out the win.” Said Hannoun who also had an assist in
regulation.
Vladimir Bobylev (16th) tied the game at 4 midway
through the second period with his second of the night, which ultimately forced
the extra innings and was named 1st star.
The Royals won their season high 7th in a row,
and have points in 10 straight games (9-0-1-0).
Victoria moves 2 back of Kelowna
for the Western Conference lead, and 5 up on 3rd place Everett.
Tyler Soy (27th) opened the scoring short handed
just :49 seconds in. Bobylev added to the
lead on the power play to make it 2-0.
Tri City’s
Maxwell James drew a charging minor for a hit on local product Keith Anderson
of Victoria, James also drew 2 minutes for roughing on the same play, while
both got 5 each for fighting.
On the Royals ensuing power play, Tyler Sandhu scored
shorthanded for the Americans to cut into the lead 2-1.
“I thought we had a chance to take the game, take control
of it. We had a 4 minute power play and
give up a shorthanded goal, we didn’t have the urgency that we needed – but we
found a way to win.” According to Head Coach Dave Lowry.
Victoria’s Regan
Nagy restored the 2 goal lead while shorthanded before the first period was
out.
Early in the second, Tri
City’s Brendan O’Reilly, Nolan Yaremko
(1g 1a) and Parker Wotherspoon (1g 1a) scored the three straight in a span of 1:13, spelling the end of Coleman Vollrath’s night,
stopping 8 of 12.
Griffen Outhouse turned away 16 of 16 in relief, and 3 of 4
in the shoot out.
“Griffen made some key saves at the right times, that’s
why we got the extra point.” Said Lowry.
Evan Sarthou started his 11th straight for Tri
City, was pulled after 20 minutes allowing
3 goals on 7 Victoria shots. Nicholas Sanders came in to stop 19 of 20,
and 2 of 4 in the skills competition.
Tyler Soy and Dante Hannoun scored in the shoot out while Jack
Walker and Bobylev were denied.
Tyler Sandhu was the only American shooter to beat Outhouse.
Victoria was 1
for 6 on the power play while adding a pair of short handed goals. Tri
City was 1 for 5 with the man
advantage, and added a short handed tally as well.
“I liked the way we started, I liked our penalty kill and
the fact that it scored a couple goals and gave us some life…” said Lowry
Victoria won
the final two games of the 4 game season series and end with a record of
(2-0-1-1).
Victoria plays
in Portland Saturday night, in
their 3rd meeting of the season.
The Royals beat the Winterhawks twice at the start of the season at home
by scores of 4-1 and 6-5.
