Victoria, BC – The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce that the club has traded for the rights to forward Evan Richardson (1994) from the Swift Current Broncos. In exchange, the Royals have sent forward Justin Spagrud (1995) and a conditional draft pick to the Broncos.

Richardson spent the 2011-12 season as a member of the Powell River Kings in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). In 48 games of regular season play, the Nanaimo, BC native collected 55 points (19G-36A) to go along with 30 minutes in penalties. The 18-year-old helped lead the Kings to a 2012 Fred Page Cup Final appearance, registering nine points (4G-5A) in 15 games of playoff action.

The 5-8, 170 lb forward was also selected to the Canada West team roster at the 2011 World Junior A Challenge held last November in Langley, BC. Richardson notched one goal and one assist in five games of tournament play en route to a Canada West gold medal.

During the 2010-11 season, Richardson suited up for the BCHL’s Victoria Grizzlies. Richardson recorded 42 points (12G-30A) through 55 regular season games and went on to post three points in eight playoff games for the Grizzlies.

Selected by the Swift Current Broncos in the first round, 15th overall, of the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft, Richardson spent the majority of the 2009-10 season with the North Island Silvertips of the BC Major Midget Hockey League. In 37 games for the Silvertips, Richardson tallied 73 points (35G-38A). That season, Richardson also netted a pair of goals in seven games of regular and post-season play for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the BCHL.

Victoria sends Spagrud to Swift Current after acquiring the 17-year-old and a second round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft from the Tri-City Americans in an August 2011 trade that sent defenceman Mitch Topping the other way. The Gull Lake, SK native spent the 2011-12 season with the Swift Current Legionnaires Midget AAA squad.

The Royals will kick off their 2012-13 home schedule on September 22nd when they will host the Vancouver Giants at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Season tickets and mini-packs are now on sale.
