Royals acquire Travis Brown

The Victoria Royals acquired 19 year old defenceman Travis Brown from the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for the rights to forward Noah Gregor (1998) and a pair of third round WHL Bantam Draft picks.

“Primarily it’s his vision, he’s mobile, can get the puck on sticks…he compliments offensive players and is one himself.” – GM Cam Hope on what Brown brings.

Brown is 6'2, 193 lbs, and a 5th round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks in 2012.

“He’s a veteran, offensive defenseman.  Very good puck mover, great vision and although it’s an addition to our defense, more than anything it helps our offense.”

In 43 games this season he has 9 goals, 29 assists and 38 points, 4th most by WHL reargaurds.  Brown played 182 games for the Warriors, scoring 25 goals and totaling 109 points

The Winnipeg product was originally selected in the fourth round, 76th overall, of the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.

Gregor was drafted by the Royals in the third round, 55th overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce that the club has acquired defenceman Travis Brown (1994) from the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for the rights to forward Noah Gregor (1998) and a pair of third round WHL Bantam Draft picks.

Brown comes to Victoria after suiting up for Moose Jaw since the 2010-11 season. Drafted in the fifth round, 149th overall, by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2012 NHL Draft, Brown has posted 38 points (9g-29a) to go along with 48 penalty minutes in 43 games this season for the Warriors.

“We are excited to add such a talented player to our blue line,” Royals’ General Manager Cameron Hope said. “Travis has the kind of exceptional vision and skill that we believe will make him an immediate contributor to our success this season.”
