Recap: VIC 3 - PG 0 [Game 4]


Coleman Vollrath made 24 saves to help the visiting Victoria Royals shut out the Prince George Cougars 3-0 Thursday night.

“I like the fact that we came, we competed, played with emotion, and played the game the way, as we name it - the right way.” said Head Coach Dave Lowry.

The Royals now lead the best of seven playoff series 3-1 with Game 5 Saturday night in Victoria.

The Royals took a 1-0 lead into the third period, added a shorthanded and power play goal to secure the victory.

Vollrath posted the franchise’s first playoff shutout, earning his 3rd post season victory.  Ty Edmonds took the defeat making 21 saves, as both clubs registered 24 shots.  Victoria oushot Prince George 13-4 in the middle frame.

Travis Brown opened the scoring in the second period, while Regan Nagy struck short handed just :44 seconds into the third period.  Nagy and Brown both had a goal and assist each.

Brandon Magee added a pair of assists to set the franchise record for most playoff points with 22 (9g-13a) surpassing Steven Hodges total of 20 points.

“Tonight we just wanted to make sure we just got to the basics, and play a full 60 minutes…” said Magee after falling 4-2 the night earlier,

“All four lines were able to roll tonight…”

Alex Forsberg added a single with the man advantage for some insurance in the final frame.

Victoria shut down all 8 Prince George power plays while going 1 for 3.

Prince George, BC- The Victoria Royals defeated the Prince George Cougars 3-0 as Coleman Vollrath stopped all 24 shots in Game 4 to go up 3-1 in the Western Conference Quarter-Finals.

Victoria scored two third period goals as Regan Nagy and Alex Forsberg notched a short-handed and powerplay marker respectively. Travis Brown scored the game winner in the middle frame. Vollrath posted the franchise’s first playoff shutout.

Royals’ forward Brandon Magee tallied two assists in tonight’s game to set the all-time record for most playoff points in Victoria/Chilliwack franchise history with 22 (9g-13a).

Cougars’ goaltender Ty Edmonds turned away 21 of 24 shots.

Victoria went 1/3=33.3% on the man-advantage, while Prince George went 0/8=0.0% on the night.
