Mike Aviani scored 4 times to lead the visiting Spokane Chiefs (3-0) past the Victoria Royals 6-1 Wednesday night, sweeping the two game set.
Victoria dropped their 3rd straight at home and dip to (1-3) on the season after falling to Spokane 6-2 the night before.
Mitch Holmberg had a goal and three assists for a four point night, while Garrett Houghson stopped 28 of 29 shots for 3rd star honours. Patrik Polivka was 26 for 32 in the loss.
The Chiefs power play was the difference, going 3 for 5 while the Royals went 1 for 4 with the man advantage.
Aviani scored twice on the power play, added a single short handed and one at even strength. Reid Gow chipped in with 3 assists. Spokane held period leads of 1-0 and 3-0. Connor Chartier tallied a single, while Luke Harrison notched the lone goal for Victoria.
15 year old Dante Hannoun, Victoria’s 11th overall bantam pick in 2013 played his first regular season game for the club and generated some scoring opportunities, won face offs and played on the power play.
The Royals were without some key contributors in defenseman Joe Hicketts (Upper, day to day), 19 year old forwards Brandon Magee (Upper, 7-10 days), Steven Hodges (lower 4-5 weeks) and defenseman Keegan Kanzig (Flames Camp) who is expected to return to the club by the weekend.
The Royals will now head out on a four-game road trip that begins Saturday night in Kelowna. Victoria will play in Prince George twice, and then visit Kamloops before returning home October 6th when they host the Tri-City Americans.
