Preview: Everett at Victoria, Friday Mar.20.2015

The Victoria Royals begin a home and home with the visiting Everett Silvertips Friday night, the #9 ranked team in the CHL.

The Royals have a win and a shoot out loss against the Silvertips so far this season.  Victoria won 3-1 at home in November, and fell 7-6 in a shoot out at Everett Dec. 17th.

The Royals recently dropped a 4-1 home loss to the Giants Sunday, snapping a 4 game win streak after playing 4 games in 6 days.  The Silvertips have points in their last two outings, coming off a 3-1 win versus the Thunderbirds, and a 3-2 shoot out loss in Seattle prior.

The Royals have 2nd place locked up in the BC Division and home ice in the first round with their opponent yet to be determined.  They begin the playoffs at the SOFMC Friday and Saturday March 27th and 28th.

The Silvertips are tied for first in the US Divison with the Winterhawks, both at 90 points and with 3 games remaining.  Evertt plays in Spokane Sunday at 5pm.

Everett is led by Nikita Scherback, the 26th overall selection of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.  He has 79 points in 63 games.

The Silvertips are the 2nd least penalized team in the WHL, while allowing the 2nd fewest goals against, and own the 3rd best power play based on percentage.

The Royals have scored the 8th most goals for on average, allowed the 8th fewest, and own the 7th best power play.

Victoria is led by Austin Carroll who also has 76 points in 67 games, including 37 goals which ties the Royals’ record for most markers in a season with Jamie Crooks.

Everett’s netminder Carter Hart was named the CHL’s goalie of the week for March 10th, and leads the league in goal against average (2.24), and 2nd in save percentage (0.918) with a record of (17-5-2-2).

Victoria netminder Coleman Vollrath is the reigning CHL Goaltender of the Week, riding a personal 4 game win streak and back to back shut outs.

The Silvertips are 6 games over .500 on the road, while the Royals are 10 over at home.

Saturday nights game in Everett will close out the regular season for Victoria, who’ll return home for their Awards Ceremony Sunday afternoon at 3 pm.
