Preview: Regina at Victoria

The Regina Pats (9-12-1-1, 20pts) pay their first visit to the Island in 18 years to face the Victoria Royals (11-10, 22pts) Saturday night.

The Pats won their only meeting last year 7-3 on January 13th in Regina.

The Royals kicked off a 6 game homestand with a 5-0 blanking of the visiting Everett Silvertips Friday night.  Jamie Crooks had 2 goals and an assist to lead the offense, while netminder Patrik Polivka made 20 saves for the first shut out in club history.

The Pats clawed back twice to tie, but eventually fell 4-3 in a shoot out against the Giants in Vancouver Friday night, kicking off 6 consecutive on the road.  With 4 wins in their past 10, Regina sit 10th in the East with 20 points, but just 10 points out of first.

The Pats are led in scoring by F Lane Sheidl’s 27 points, F Morgan Klimchuk leads the team in goals with 12.      Regina has added Duncan product and overage defenseman Alex Theriau to the line up and played his first game of the season in Vancouver Friday.  He spent last season with Medicine Hat.

Alex Gogolev leads the Royals in assists (15) and scoring (24pts).  Gogolev, Brandon Magee and Jamie Crooks are tied for the team lead in goals with (9).

Victoria has now won back to back games, and with 22 points are 6th in the conference, 4 back of the Rockets.  The Royals are now (7-2) at the Save On Foods Memorial Center.

Victoria will play host to Saskatoon Tuesday, then a pair against Prince George next Friday and Saturday, before wrapping up the homestand against Moose Jaw.
