Team BC captures gold, Team Saskatchewan takes home bronze.

Victoria, BC – The
Victoria Royals would like to congratulate five of their 2012 WHL Bantam Draft
picks on their success at the 2012 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup. Defenceman
Chaz Reddekopp, forward Tyler Soy and goaltender Markus Daly helped Team BC
earn the gold medal while forwards Regan Nagy and Matthew Campese grabbed a
bronze medal with Team Saskatchewan.
Chaz Reddekopp helped Team BC to a perfect 4-0 record
in the annual tournament, posting five points (1g-4a) to lead all defencemen.
Reddekopp, the Royals’ first round, 13th overall selection in the
2012 WHL Bantam Draft, was also named to the tournament’s All-Star Team.
Tyler Soy was effective for team BC, notching four
points (1g-3a) through four games. The Surrey, BC native was picked up by the
Royals with their first round, eighth overall choice in last summer’s draft.
Goaltender and Victoria, BC native Markus Daly saw action against Team
Manitoba, logging a 5-2 victory for Team BC and stopping 21 shots.
Forwards Regan Nagy and Matthew Campese wore the green
and gold for Team Saskatchewan and picked up a bronze medal after a narrow 2-1
win over Team Manitoba. Nagy, the Royals’ second round, 27th overall
pick in 2012 registered a goal and a pair of assists in four games played while
Campese was held pointless through three games.
The Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup brings together
the top-rated players under the age of 16 to represent their province in a
four-team tournament each year. The tournament was held from November 1-4, 2012
at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary, AB and is comprised of teams from BC,
Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
