Preview: Victoria at Medicine Hat

The Victoria Royals (9-10, 18pts) visit the Medicine Hat Tigers (11-9-1-0, 23pts) Saturday night, wrapping up 7 consecutive on the road.

The Royals look to snap a 6 game slide against the Tigers who’ve won their last 2, and 6 of their last 8.

It’s the second and final meeting of the season, with Victoria winning on home ice 4-3 in overtime back on Oct 3rd.

Victoria is 3rd in the BC Division and 6th in the West after coming off a 5-2 loss in Calgary Friday evening, as they outshot the Hitmen 29-26, but were outscored In the third by a 3-1 margin.  The Royals got goals from Tyler Stahl and Steven Hodges, and 21 saves from Calgary native Coleman Vollrath.

Hodges extends his point streak to 6 games (2g, 4a), while Alex Gogolev picked up an assist against his former club.

Medicine Hat sits 4th in the Central, and 5th in the East after they broke a 2-2 tie in the third, then and added two more, to skate away with a 5-2 win over the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors Friday night. Cam Lanigan had 29 saves for his 9th win in 12 games.  Elgin Pearce had a goal and two assists, while Hunter Shinkaruk and Curtis Valk each had a goal and an assist. 

Together Shinkaruk and Valk have scored 36% of the teams goals this season.  Valk and Shinkaruk are 3rd and 4th respectively in league scoring.

Up next the Royals kick off a 6 game homestand next Friday night against the Everett Silvertips, in their first meeting of the season.

Tonight Victoria wraps up 3 games in 4 nights, part of a 5 game in 9 night swing and travel back home after the game.  It’s the longest span of days between home games with 23, and a total of 4648 km travelled.
