Preview: Tri City at Victoria, Wed. 12.Feb.2014

Riding a 3 game win streak, the Victoria Royals (38-16-1-3, 80 pts) entertain the Tri City Americans (27-24-2-3, 59 pts) in their final meeting of the season Wednesday.

The Royals were ranked 10th in the CHL Top 10, a franchise first on Wednesday.

Victoria has won two of their three previous encounters, most recently a 3-1 win in Tri City back on Nov. 29th.  The Americans won 4-2 at home in October and fell on the Island 2-1 October 6th.

The Americans are 8th in the West, with 6 wins in their past 10 and coming off a 3-1 road win against the Blazers Monday, to snap a 2 game skid.  The Ams are playing the 2nd of a 5 game road trip.

The Royals are 3rd in the West, with points in 10 straight games (10-0-1-1).  They wrapped up their 3 game BC Division road swing with 3 wins over Kamloops, Kelowna and Vancouver.

Victoria is 3 points back of Portland and 5 ahead of 4th place Seattle. They continue to set the franchise record for wins and points in a season with 80 eclipsing last years record setting mark of 77.

The Royals are 9 games over .500 at home (19-10-1-2), while the Americans are 5 under (9-14-1-3) on the road.

Both teams are stingy, as Victoria has allowed the 2nd fewest goals against on average per game, and Tri City 6th fewest.

Americans netminder Eric Comrie owns the 2nd best save percentage in the league, next to the Royals Coleman Vollrath.  Comrie was named WHL Goaltender of the Month for January, posting a record of 8-2-0-1.

Tri City has the 5th most efficient penalty kill in the league, Victoria 6th.

The Royals are in a stretch where they’re playing 10 road dates in 11 games.  Victoria heads out Thursday on their biggest trek of the season, playing 5 games in 8 nights out East, 11 days on the road travelling over 4800 km.  Then they’ll play a pair in Prince George before their next home date March 7th and 8th against Kamloops.  Victoria is riding a 6 game road winning streak.
