Victoria, BC – The Victoria Royals are proud to announce that the club has signed defenceman Scott Walford to a Western Hockey League (WHL) Standard Player Agreement.

Walford was selected by the Royals with the club’s first round, 18th overall, pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. The 6-0, 185 lb defenceman will suit up for the Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) this season.

“To have a quality person and player such as Scott sign with us is a positive step for our franchise,” Royals’ General Manager Cameron Hope said. “Scott is an intelligent and talented defenceman who understands the game. We are excited to have him as a part of our future plans.”

The Coquitlam, B.C. product spent the 2013-14 season with the OHA Bantam Prep team, where he registered 48 points (12g-36a) and 36 penalty minutes over 56 games played. Last year, Walford helped lead OHA to a gold medal at the John Reid Memorial Tournament where he notched nine points (1g-8a) in six games.
