Hicketts Signs With Detroit

Victoria’s first ever draft pick signs NHL contract.

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals would like to congratulate defenceman Joe Hicketts who has agreed to a three-year entry level contract as a free agent with the National Hockey League’s (NHL) Detroit Red Wings.

The Kamloops, BC product has spent the past two seasons with the Royals. Hicketts ranks as the seventh-leading scorer for defenceman in franchise history with 48 points (12g-36a) in 104 games. 
Hicketts was selected 12th overall in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft as the Royals’ first ever draft choice. 

The 5-8, 186 lb defender won a bronze medal with Team Canada at the World Under-18 Hockey Championships in Finland this past April. Hicketts also won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2013 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka Tournament where he was named an alternate captain.

The Royals kick-off their 2014-15 home schedule with a Friday night clash versus the Kamloops Blazers on September 26th.  Interested in joining our Royal Family?
