BLAZERS IN OVERTIME

in overtime to Kamloops.

BC- The Victoria
Royals lost a 3-2 result to the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday afternoon at
Sungod Arena in Delta, BC with Brady Gaudet scoring the overtime winner. The
Royals are one of four teams competing in the North Delta WHL Pre-Season
Invitational.
The Royals
used the first game of the weekend to feature some of their veteran players
with Travis Brown (1994), Axel Blomqvist (1995) and Coleman Vollrath (1995)
playing in their first game of the pre-season.
Kamloops
opened the scoring 37 seconds into the second period on a goal from winger Cole
Ully. Victoria answered back with two goals of their own from forwards Tyler
Soy and Taylor Crunk to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. The Blazers tied the
game early into the final frame with a goal from former Royal Luke Harrison to
send the game to overtime.
Royals’
goaltender Vollrath went the distance in net turning away 28 of the 31 shots he
faced. Netminders Cole Kehler and Bolton Pouliot combined for 29 saves on 31
shots for the Blazers.
Victoria
was awarded seven powerplays on the day, while Kamloops received three
opportunities. Neither team was able to capitalize with the extra attacker.
Victoria
scratched 20 year-olds Brandon Magee, and Austin Carroll along with regulars
Keegan Kanzig, Mitch Skapski, and Ryan Gagnon.
The Royals
wrap-up the two-game tournament in Delta, B.C. with a 1:00 p.m. match-up
against the Kelowna Rockets on Sunday.
