Preview: Kamloops at Victoria Saturday Sept. 27th

Saturday night the Victoria Royals (0-3) look for their first win of the season and to avenge an 8-2 loss against Kamloops (2-1) one night earlier, against the same Blazers.

Friday night, the visitors built up period leads of 3-0 and 7-0, while their power play went 3 for 5.  They also notched a short handed marker in the third.

Five Kamloops players had 3 point nights, and netminder Bolton Pouliot kicked out 27 of 29 for his 2nd win over Victoria this season.

The Royals outscored the Blazers 2-1 in the third, while outshooting their opposition 15-4 in the final frame, however were outshot 33-29 overall while going 0 for 7 on the power play.

Netminders Coleman Vollrath (15/19) and Evan Smith (10/14) shared the goaltending duties for the home team.

It was the third straight loss for Victoria, and second to Kamloops after a 6-3 loss on the road last Friday.

Defenseman Joe Hicketts and Jack Walker scored the goals for the Royals, while Austin Carroll and Axel Blomqvist picked up a pair of assists each.

With three point nights for the Blazers was Devin Sideroff (2g 1a), Matt Revell and Matt Needham with 3 helpers a piece. Newcomer Mike Winther and Cole Ully tallied a goal and 2 assists each.  Michael For and Jake Kryski chipped in with a goal and assist each.

Game Misconducts were handed out to Victoria’s Ryan Gagnon for Charging, while Patrik Maier of Kamloops was assessed the misconduct for the Check to the Head of Axel Blomqvist who left and did not return.

The Royals welcomed back 20 yr old forward Austin Carroll (7th rd ’14) and Brandon Magee (free agent) from Calgary Flames Camp, Axel Blomqvist (signed) from the Jets, and from Detroit, Joe Hicketts who signed a 3 year entry level contract earlier this week.

Magee was serving the 3rd of his 12 game suspension.  Defenseman Keegan Kanzig is still with the Flames.

After Saturday’s rematch, Victoria wraps up 3 in 3 nights in Vancouver with a 5 pm puck drop.
