Recap: TRI 4 - VIC 3 Shoot Out (Tues. Jan.5.2016)

The visiting Tri City Americans overcame a two goal third period deficit to defeat the Victoria Royals 4-3 in a shoot out Tuesday night.

“We had an excellent first period, but didn’t follow it up in the second – that was our achilles heel…” said interim head coach Enio Sacilotto,

Royals Matthew Phillips scored twice and Tyler Soy had a goal and assist to give the Royals a 3-1 lead in third before Tyler Sandhu orchestrated the come back with a goal and an assist to force overtime which solved nothing.

Americans Vladislav Lukin scored the lone goal in the shootout, while Jack Walker, Vladimir Bobylev and Matthew Phillips were all stopped.

Evan Sarthou earned the victory stopping 24 of 27 shots, while Griffen Outhouse stopped 19 of 22 in the defeat.

Both clubs struck twice on the power play, Victoria 2 for 6, and Tri City 2 for 5.

The Royals led 2-0 after 20 minutes and 2-1 after 40.

Tri City also got goals from Lukin and Beau McCue.

The Americans also won their previous game against the Royals 6-5 in overtime in Tri City November 21st.

The Royals are now winless in 3 (0-2-0-1), while the Americans have earned back to back victories.

With the point in the shoot out loss, Victoria remains 2nd in the West, 2 points up on idle Prince George.

Tri City passes Vancouver for 9th in the Conference.

Soy extends his point streak to 6 games (3g 5a) 8pts, while Phillips is 2nd in rookie scoring with 41 points, tied for the most goals (21) by a freshman with the Tigers Max Gerlach.

Both clubs were missing key defenseman due to the World Juniors.  Joe Hicketts of Victoria, and Brandon Carlo of the US who won Bronze earlier in the day.

The rematch goes Wednesday night at the SOFMC with a 7pm puck drop.
