Jared Dmytriw scored twice, but the visiting Victoria Royals
fell 5-4 Saturday night to the Kelowna Rockets.
“I thought our effort was really good, thought we played
a pretty good game,” said Interim Head Coach Enio Sacilotto,
“The chances throughout were fairly even…I thought they capitalized
on their chances.”
Trailing 4-1 going into the third, the Royals twice came to
within one to tie but ultimately fell short, dropping their second in a row.
“We held in there, the players showed a lot of heart and perseverance,
but in the end the clock ran out on us.” Commented Sacilotto
The Rockets scored twice late in the second to break a 1-1
tie, and added a short handed goal early in the third to take a 3 goal lead.
Victoria
outshot Kelowna 19-7 in the third
and 33-24 overall.
“I think we were happy with the way we battled in the
third to bring it that close,” said Dmytriw who scored a pair in front his
family visiting from Saskatchewan.
“It was disappointing to lose but in the third it was
nice we had a push.”
Rockets netminder Michael Herringer earned the win, while
Coleman Vollrath suffered the loss.
The Royals got a goal and assist from Logan Fisher, and two
assist nights from Alex Forsberg and Matthew Phillips. Victoria
also got a power play goal from Tyler Soy.
Rockets Nick Merkley had a goal and two assists, Dillon Dube
had two goals, while Tyson Baillie and Cal Foote chipped in with a pair of
helpers.
Victoria was 1
for 6 on the power play, while allowing 1 goal 6 opposition mad advantages.
Kelowna snapped
a winless in two game skid, and tie the season series at two games a piece.
Both clubs were playing 5 games in 7 nights.
Victoria wraps
up their 3 game BC Division road trip with a 1-2 record after settling for a
split against Kamloops.
Up next a pair of home dates Tuesday and Wednesday against Tri
City.
