Jack Walker scores, assist brother Ben. |
Trailing 2-1 in the third Jack tied the game with just 4:32 remaining. It was the first time the brothers had combined to score a goal in team history.
“We’re very fortunate to get a point, especially out of conference, we didn’t think it was our best game - but with a late goal by big Jack Walker we were able to pull it through.” Royals Assistant Coach Enio Sacilotto.
Conner Bleackley scored the deciding shoot out goal as all three Rebel shooters were successful. The Royals went 2 for 3 with goals from Logan Nelson (4/4) and Steven Hodges, as Brandon Magee missed.
“The shoot out is always up for grabs, it’s a roll of the dice, a gamble…we’ve got to be pleased getting the point.” said Sacilotto.
Jack Walker scores 1st WHL goal to tie the game at 2. |
Bolton Pouliot earned his 3rd win of the season with 32 saves, while Patrik Polivka in his 13th consecutive start suffered his second shoot out loss kicking out 30 pucks, his record now sits at (14-7-0-2).
The Royals power play went 1 for 6 against the 3rd best penalty killing, while stopping all 3 Rebel man advantages.
According to Sacilotto, “I thought we threw away a couple of power play opportunities that we didn’t capatalize on.”
It was the first of two meetings this season, Victoria will be back in Red Deer on February 15th.
The Royals now have points in 5 straight on the road (4-0-0-1) and will be in Edmonton Saturday night.
