Recap: VIC 6 - SEA 2

Victoria’s power play struck 3 times while Alex Gogolev had a 3 point night as the Royals defeated the Thunderbirds 6-2 in Seattle Tuesday night.

The Royals take sole possession of 6th in the West, 2 points up on the Thunderbirds in the first of 4 meetings of the season.

Victoria scored twice in each period while out shooting Seattle 43 – 31 on the night.

The Royals went 3 for 7 with the man advantage and only allowed 1 goal on 7 Thunderbird chances, which is ranked 3rd best in the league.

Patrik Polivka earned his 14th win with 29 saves, while Victoria product Brandon Glover allowed 5 on 43 shots for his 12th loss.

It was Gogolev’s 100th career game and was named 1st star with 2 goals and an assist.

Austin Carroll got the Gordie Howe Hat Trick, Jamie Crooks and had a goal and an assist, and Jack Walker chipped in with a pair of helpers.  Defenseman Brett Cote scored the eventual game winner (4) in the second period.  Logan Fisher rounded out the scoring.

It was a physical affair with 4 fights, and 120 minutes in penalties handed out – 50 belonging to the Royals.

They now run their road win streak to 4 games, and winning 2 straight and 4 out of 5 overall.

Victoria will play in Red Deer Friday, and Edmonton Saturday before the Christmas Break.
