Recap: Victoria 6 - Vancouver 2

Jordan Fransoo would assist on Alex Gogolev's power play goal in a 6-2 Royals Win.

Steven Hodges scored twice and Alex Gogolev had 3 points as the Victoria Royals (24-17-1-2, 51pts) defeated the Vancouver Giants (12-34-0-0, 24pts) 6-2 on the road Friday night.


Steven Hodges had a 2 goal night.
Victoria has now won 4 in a row, a Royals club record.  They’ve also won 4 of 6 against the Giants and will meet again twice next weekend on the Island.

Victoria’s power play remains red hot, going 2 for 4, and 44% over their last 5 games (11/25).

Patrik Polivka was the games first star with 30 saves earning his 20th win and tying Keith Hamilton for the Royals record for wins as a netminder.  Payton Lee had 20 stops in the defeat.

Magee, Gogolev and Hodges combined for 6 points.
 
Brendan Rouse got the Giants on board first with a short handed goal, scoring after Polivka made a breakaway save on Jackson Houck.  Trent Lofthouse would earn his 3rd as a Royal with 12.8 seconds left in the first to even the score at 1.

Tyler Soy scored his 1st WHL goal.
 The Royals scored 3 straight in the middle frame on goals by Austin Carroll, Alex Gogolev and Steven Hodges.  The last 2 on the power play :50 seconds apart.  The Giants cut the lead in half in the third, but Victoria added a pair from Hodges and Tyler Soy for the 6-2 lead. 

It was Soy’s first WHL goal and point in his 3 WHL game, as a 15 year old.

Steven Hodges has scored twice in each of his last 3 games, now 7 goals in his last 4 games and 8pts (7g 1a).  Alex Gogolev had a goal and 2 assists, extending his point streak to 5 games (2g 9a) and 11 points.

Brett Cote chipped in with 2 helpers and with an assist, Brandon Magee extends his point streak to 5 games (1g 5a) with 6 points.

The Royals were without 6 players due to injury. Logan Nelson (Lower, 3-4 weeks), Ben Walker (Upper, 3-7 days), Luke Harrison (Upper, indefinite), Tim Traber (Lower, 5-7 days), Jamie Crooks and Mitch Deacon.

Victoria is 6th in the Conference and move 4 points back of 5th place Tri City - who lost at home to Kamloops, the Royals next opponent Saturday night in the interior.
