Victoria, BC – The
Victoria Royals today announced that the team has traded 1993-born defenceman
Jesse Zgraggen (zuh-GRAG-in) to the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for their fourth
round selection in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.
Victoria sends Zgraggen to Calgary in advance of
Thursday’s WHL Trade Deadline after the 19-year-old blueliner appeared in 33
games this season for the Royals. The Lethbridge, AB native has collected seven
points (1g-6a) and 34 penalty minutes so far this season.
“We would like to thank Jesse for his contributions to
our team over the last three years,” General Manager Cameron Hope said. “Jesse
brought a positive and winning attitude to the rink every day, and his presence
will be missed by our players and staff alike. We wish him the best in
Calgary.”
The 6-1, 215 lb defenceman suited up 62 times for the
Royals in the 2011-12 season when he recorded 12 points (2g-10a) to go along
with 54 penalty minutes. In his WHL career, Zgraggen has totaled 22 points
(4g-18a) and 115 penalty minutes over 157 games played with the franchise.
The Royals now hit the road for three games beginning
on Wednesday night in Kelowna when they take on the Rockets. The Royals’ next
home game is Tuesday, January 15th when they welcome the B.C.
Division-leading Kamloops Blazers. Puck drop for Tuesday’s game is 7:05 p.m.
