Tim Bozon scored a shorthanded breakaway goal to lift the Kamloops Blazers to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Victoria Royals (3-5) Friday night.
“Thought we played pretty hard and put out a great effort. Sometimes it doesn’t go your way…tonight we deserved a better fate.” - Enio Sacilotto, Royals assistant coach
The Royals wrap up their 4 game BC Division road trip with a 2-2 record after a win in Kelowna and a split in Prince George.
The Blazers held period leads of 2-0 and 3-2, with the Royals pulling even twice but couldn’t find the equalizer in the third with the goaltender pulled.
Victoria outshot Kamloops 33-23, with Bolton Pouliout earning his first win as a Blazer making 30 saves.
“We pride ourselves on working hard and being conditioned, that’s what it comes down to on a 4 game road trip…” said Logan Fisher on outshooting the opposition 15-6 in the third at the end of 3 games in 4 nights.
Patrik Polivka made 19 saves in the defeat, including a short handed breakaway stop on Aspen Sterzer in the second.
The Royals got a goal and assist from Logan Nelson, with singles from Joe Hicketts and Austin Carroll. Brandon Magee and Brett Cote both chipped in with a pair of helpers. Nelson’s line with Carroll and Magee combined for 5 points.
“We had a great effort, the chances were there…we made a few mistakes early in the game and they capitalized, it’s hard to get out of a hole against a good team…” - Logan Nelson, Royals Forward
Tyson Ness had a pair for the Blazers, and Aaron Macklin opened the scoring.
Victoria’s power play scored twice on 7 opportunities, stopping all 3 Kamloops man advantages. The Royals penalty kill did not allow a goal during the 4 game road trip.
“It was good…after the Spokane games we wanted to get better at it and I think we did that on this road trip.” Said Fisher on the clubs penalty killing.
The Royals open up a 5 game homestand Sunday afternoon at 1pm against the Americans.
