The Victoria Royals won their 4th game in a row,
as they swept the visiting Kamloops Blazers in a two game set with a 5-1
victory Saturday night.
“I thought start to finish it was a great game, a good
team game…” said Head Coach Dave Lowry,
“When we did have breakdowns, Coleman (Vollrath) made
saves for us. When we play to our
strengths, we’re a pretty quick team.”
Jack Walker had a goal and two assists, while Joe Hicketts chipped
in with 3 helpers. Tyler Soy had a goal
and an assist, while Coleman Vollrath made 25 saves for the clubs best start to
a season ever.
The Royals beat the Blazers 4-2 one night earlier, and wrap
up their 6 game home stand Tuesday and Wednesday against the Spokane Chiefs.
Victoria held
period leads of 2-0, and 3-1, out-shooting Kamloops
14-6 in the first, and 35-26 overall in front of 4,101 fans.
Rookie Matthew Phillips opened the scoring with his first of
the year, while Regan Nagy scored the eventual game winner to give Victoria 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Nick Chyzowski cut the lead in half, but Tyler Soy regained
the two goal lead batting a puck out of the air on the power play before the
middle frame was out.
In the third, Alex Forsberg struck with the man advantage to
extend the lead to 4-1, and extend his point streak to 4 games and 9 points. Jack Walker put the game out of reach with
his 2nd of the season.
Victoria
struck twice with the man advantage, going 2 for 4, after a 2 for 6 effort on
Friday night. Kamloops
was 0 for 3 Saturday.
Hicketts first assist of the night set the franchise record
for most assists by a defenseman with 92, surpassing Chilliwack Bruin Brandon
Mannings’ 91, doing it in 30 fewer games.
Vollrath’s victory tied the Royals record held by Patrick
Polivka for most wins by a netminder with 56, the franchise record held by Chilliwack’s
Lucas Gore with 60.
Tyler Soy continues to score at a point per game pace
against Kamloops, recording 20
points in 19 career games against the Blazers (11g 9a).
Kamloops
netminder Connor Ingram suffered the loss, allowing 5 goals on 30 Royal shots,
as his Blazers dropped their 4th in a row, a first for the club to
start the season.
