Logan Fisher scored shorthanded for the eventual game winner
as the visiting Victoria Royals beat the Kamloops Blazers 3-1 Saturday night.
Fisher broke a 1-1 third period tie before Tyler Soy netted his
team leading 6th goal into an empty net for insurance.
Rookie Matthew Phillips opened the scoring with his 3rd,
a highlight reel goal late in the second, before Kamloops Captain Matt Needham
tied it less than a minute later.
Coleman Vollrath earned his 3rd straight victory
making 19 saves, while Dylan Ferguson in his first start of the season, allowed
2 goals on 29 Royal shots.
Victoria was 0
for 4 on their power play, but their penalty kill was a perfect 3 for 3
including the short handed tally. The
Royals own the best penalty kill in the league.
Victoria won
both games on their two game BC Division road swing after blanking Kelowna
3-0 Friday.
The Royals are now riding a 3 game win streak, while sitting
atop the WHL standings with a 7-1 record – their best start in franchise
history.
They return home to face the 2016 Memorial Cup host Red Deer
Rebels on Friday.
