PROSPECTS TO PLAY IN 2015 WESTERN CANADA U-16 CHALLENGE CUP

BC- The Victoria
Royals today announced that prospects Eric Florchuk, Matthew Smith and Grady
Hobbs will represent Team Alberta, Team Saskatchewan and Team Manitoba
respectively at the 2015 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup.
The annual
event which is in its fifth year, will take place from October 28th
to November 1st at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary, AB. The
tournament is a round robin format and consists of the four provincial under-16
teams from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
ERIC
FLORCHUK
Florchuk, a
native of Fort Saskatchewan, AB was the Royals’ first pick, 13th
overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft. Florchuk was signed by Victoria to a WHL
Standard Player Agreement in August of this year.
The 5-10,
140 lb centre is currently playing for the Fort Saskatchewan Boston Pizza
Rangers of the Alberta
AAA Midget Hockey League.
MATTHEW
SMITH
Smith a
5-10, 130 lb defender was selected in the seventh round, 145th
overall by the Royals in the WHL Bantam Draft this past May.
The product
of Saskatoon, SK is skating for the Saskatoon Blazers of the Saskatchewan
Midget AAA Hockey League.
GRADY
HOBBS
A native of
Deloraine, MB, Hobbs was drafted by the Royals with their second pick of the
fifth round, 102nd overall in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.
The 5-8,
167 lb winger is playing for the Southwest Cougars of the Manitoba Midget AAA
Hockey League.
