Royal's Prospects Selected U-16



ROYALS’ PROSPECTS SELECTED FOR WESTERN CANADA U16 CHALLENGE CUP
Victoria draft picks Tyler Soy, Chaz Reddekopp and Markus Daly to represent Team BC, Regan Nagy and Matthew Campese to dress for Team Saskatchewan.

Victoria, BC – The Victoria Royals would like to congratulate 2012 WHL Bantam Draft picks Tyler Soy, Chaz Reddekopp, Markus Daly, Regan Nagy and Matthew Campese on being named to their respective province’s U16 team for the upcoming Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup.

Team BC

Representing Team BC at the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup will be Soy, Reddekopp and Daly.

Soy, a native of Surrey, BC, is currently playing with the Okanagan Hockey Academy Midget Prep Team. This season, the 5-11, 154 lb forward has notched 21 points (10g-11a) along with four penalty minutes in 11 games played. Soy was Victoria’s first round, eighth overall pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

Reddekopp, a 6-2, 200 lb defenceman, is spending the 2012-13 hockey season with the Pursuit of Excellence Midget 1 team. In 15 games played this year, the West Kelowna, BC native has scored eight points (2g-6a) to go along with 22 minutes in penalties. Reddekopp was selected with the Royals’ first round, 13th overall selection of the 2012 draft.

Daly, a goaltender for Victoria’s BC Major Midget affiliate the South Island Royals, was the first hometown player selected at the annual WHL Bantam Draft in franchise history. Daly currently holds a record of 0-3-1 and a goals against average of 4.43 with South Island. The 6-0, 175 lb netminder was selected in the fifth round, 93rd overall by the Royals this past summer.

Team Saskatchewan

Suiting up for Team Saskatchewan at the Challenge Cup will be forwards Regan Nagy and Matthew Campese.

Nagy, the Royals second round, 27th overall pick from the draft, is currently a member of the Moose Jaw Generals of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. In seven games played with the Generals to begin the 2012-13 season, the Ogema, SK resident has netted eight points (3g-5a) and eight penalty minutes.

Prince Albert, SK native Campese is currently playing alongside Soy at the Okanagan Hockey Academy. The 5-9, 172 lb forward has appeared in nine games with the Midget Prep Team, scoring 12 points (10g-2a) and collecting 26 minutes in penalties. Campese was drafted by the Royals with their third round, 49th overall selection.

Current Royals’ defencemen Joe Hicketts and Ryan Gagnon along with prospect Michael Bell represented Team BC at the 2011 Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup. The three players helped Team BC to a bronze medal.

The Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup brings together the top-rated players under the age of 16 to represent their province in a four-team tournament each year. The tournament will be held from November 1-4, 2012 at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary, AB and is comprised of teams from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Victoria will host the Calgary Hitmen at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre tomorrow night for a clash at 7:05 p.m. The Royals will then welcome the Brandon Wheat Kings for their first visit to the island in over 20 years on Tuesday, October 23rd. Puck-drop is slated for 7:05 p.m.
