Last year, Victoria won 5-4 in Prince Albert on Feb. 15th.
It’s the return of former Victoria Head Coach and GM Marc Habscheid, who is now the bench boss for Prince Albert, amassing a record of 8-6 since taking over for Corey Clouston in October.
The Raiders, now back to .500 on the season, had their 7 game road win streak snapped with a 1-0 loss to the Rockets on Saturday. Prince Albert is 2-1 on their BC Division road swing after wins in Prince George and Kamloops by 5-2 and 5-4 scores respectively.
The Raiders feature defenseman Josh Morrissey, a first round pick of the Winnipeg Jets, who has been named to Team Canada’s World Junior selection camp roster, along with Joe Hicketts of the Royals. Hicketts leads the CHL in defenseman scoring with 38 points, while Morrissey has 21. Morrissey also represented Canada last year at the tournament with 3 points in 7 games.
Victoria is looking for back to back home wins after a 6-3 come from behind win over Saskatoon Friday. Axel Blomqvist had a hat trick, while Greg Chase also had a 3 point night and Coleman Vollrath earned the win in a 4 goal third period.
The Royals are 1-1 on their current 4 game home stand after starting with a 6-4 loss to the Winterhawks. Victoria’s last home game before the Christmas break is Friday, Dec.12th against Vancouver for their annual Teddy Bear Toss night. Then it’s 3 on the road to close out the first half, with stops in Vancouver, Seattle anbd Everett.
It’s also the last game for a while for Hicketts who, along with Head Coach Dave Lowry, head out for Team Canada’s World Junior Selection Camp, with Lowry an assistant for the country.
Hicketts and Austin Carroll lead the team in scoring with 38 points. Carroll’s 20 goals are the 3rd most in the league. Hicketts leads all CHL defenseman in points. Travis Brown leads all defenseman in the WHL in goals with 12.
The Royals signed prospects Scott Walford, Ryan Peckford, Brayden Pachal and Dylan Myskiw have been selected to represent Team BC Under-16, Team Alberta Under-16, Team Saskatchewan Under-16 and Team Manitoba Under-16 respectively at the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
The 2015 Canada Winter Games will take place in Prince George, BC from February 13, 2015 to March 1, 2015.
