The Royals tied the season series at 2, after avenging a 4-3 loss to the Cougars Friday.
Victoria snapped a winless in 5 skid, and remain 2nd in the BC Division, pulling 3 points ahead of Prince George.
“The monkey’s off the back now...” said Enio Sacilotto who earned his first victory as interim head coach with Dave Lowry serving as an assistant coach for Team Canada.
“We got pucks out of our own zone, got pucks deep, shots on net, we had some intensity, we were physical, we played fast, we played whistle to whistle - we played Royals Hockey.”
The Royals scored all 4 goals in the middle frame, two by Carroll and singles by Brandon Fushimi and Dante Hannoun who had a goal and an assist. Greg Chase chipped in with a pair of helpers.
“The team just came together,” said Carroll, “…we came out just trying to win the second period, one thing lead to another, got a couple big goals and it really helped our team come together”
Vollrath earned his 3rd shut out of the year after blanking Kootenay and Prince Albert earlier this season. 16 year old Tavin Grant made 26 saves in the loss.
Victoria was 1 for 7 on the power play, while shutting down all 5 Prince George man advantages.
The Royals were without Joe Hicketts (WJ), Brandon Magee (upper) and Axel Blomqvist.
Carroll’s three points gives him 45 on the season, good for 7th most in the league. His 24 goals ties him with Rockets Tyson Baillie for 3rd most overall.
Tyler Soy had an assist to push his scoring to streak to 4 games picking up 8 points (5g 3a). Soy fought Duncan’s Josh Anderson in the third period.
Travis Brown extends his point streak to 4 games with 6 points in that span (1g 5a).
Victoria’s 7 game homestand continues with games 3 and 4 against the Spokane Chiefs Friday and Saturday.
