Last season, Victoria won 6-3 in Saskatoon Feb. 22nd.
The Royals are looking to get back in the win column after a 6-4 loss to the visiting Winterhawks on Tuesday to open a four game homestand.
Victoria who trailed by three in the game, clawed back to tie in the third, but gave up a shorthanded and empty net goal in the loss. Travis Brown had two goals for the Royals while Brandon Magee had a goal and assist.
Saskatoon is ranked 22nd in the league, and fell 5-1 in Kelowna Wednesday night. Netminder Nik Amundrud made 36 saves, and had a goaltender fight in the third with Jake Morrissey. The Blades had Sam McKechnie and Amil Krupic back after missing the previous game due to illness.
One night earlier Amundrud made 45 saves, but the Blades they gave up a pair of third period goals with a minute left, falling 4-3 to the Blazers.
Saskatoon is now now winless in 5 (0-4-1-0), being outscored 21-11 over that span. The Blades are on their BC Division road swing (0-2), playing five games in eight nights, and travelling over 4000+ kilometres on the bus.
Saskatoon’s last victory was in Brandon a 5-4 overtime win November 25th.
The Blades are led in scoring by Alex Forsberg with 21 points, Sam McKechnie is next with 18. Defenseman Adam Henry also has 18 points.
It’s also the return of two former Royals, forward Landon Welykholowa and defenseman Isaac Schacher. Defenseman Ryan Coghlan hails from Nanaimo.
Victoria is led in scoring by both Austin Caroll and Joe Hicketts with 36 points each, tied for 5th most in the WHL.
Hicketts leads all CHL defenseman in scoring, and leads the WHL in assists with 29.
Carroll has scored the most power play goals in the WHL with 9, and 2nd most goals overall with 20.
Forward Brandon Magee is scoring at 1.85 points per game, with 26 points in 14 games, riding a 3 game goal scoring streak (3). He notched his 200th point as a Royal against the Winterhawks.
Defenseman Travis Brown leads all defenseman in goals with 12, and tied for the most power play markers by a rearguard with 8.
Friday’s game against the Blades marks the 150th WHL regular season game for Brandon Fushimi, who has tallied a total of 52 points (25g – 27a) and 42 penalty minutes.
